The Steps to Cleansing, Toning & Moisturizing:
Step 1 - Cleansing
Cleansing helps remove dirt, buildup and grime from your skin. Throughout the day your skin is exposed to sun, pollutants and other environmental stressors and your skin needs to counteract this constant exposure. Not doing it clog your pores, make your skin dull and lead to breakouts. Cleansing helps in skin renewal and boosts skin health.
How to cleanse: Use a good face wash with a deep cleaning function that suits your skin type. Use lukewarm water to lather up the cleanser. Gently apply it over your face concentrating on all the areas of make-up application and spend at least 60 seconds going over your face. Don’t forget your neck and do not wash your face rigorously or as frequently as this may wash away the natural oils from the skin and make it dry.
Step 2 - Toning
Rinse your face to get rid of the cleanser and gently pat your face dry with a towel. Then move to the 2nd step in the CTM routine, which most of us tend to skip, also known as toning. It helps get rid of any remains of dirt despite cleansing. It deep cleanses the skin and eliminates dead skin cells that may lead to unwanted breakouts, reduce the size of the pores, and provides hydration. You will be surprised to see how much more dirt will be removed with a cotton swab and toner! Toning is important for your daily skincare routine, because toners also lower the skin’s pH level, calms the skin, and helps prepare it for any moisturizers or serums that will follow. Here, toning again aids in the development of a layer of healthy skin cells by tightening the skin that also helps to stabilize the skin’s natural pH balance.
How to tone: Ensure that you always opt for an alcohol-free toner or use rose water as it works as the best toner for any skin type. Soak cotton pads in your toner and sweep across your face and neck with upward and outward movements.
Step 3 - Moisturizing
Finally, the last step of the CTM routine! Our skin is the body’s largest organ and calls for regular attention to stay young, blemish-free, and healthy. Cleansing and toning open the pores of the skin leaving it bare. The skin loses its moisture hence, it’s very important to moisturize. During this step, do not forget your lips. Daily moisturizing can reduce the chance of developing extreme dryness or oiliness. Both extremes are harmful to the skin and cause common skin conditions like acne. A well-moisturized skin will feel soft, smooth, radiant and prevent aging skin. It is a must to moisturize daily as it will help enhance the texture of the skin.
How to moisturize: Do not apply too much moisturizer or it may lead to clogged pores and produce blackheads. A light moisturizer acts as a bridge between makeup and skin, thus maintaining the elasticity of the skin. Take grape-sized or dime-sized quantities for your face and it will do its job.
