Believe me, adulting is HARD! And it’s even harder when you wanna look your best without burning a hole in your pocket. With my mom behind my back to save more and spend less, experimenting with numerous beauty treatments were my jam back in college. From makeup to manicures and from haircuts to home remedies, I’ve tried every possible hack under the sun to get the best for myself (and save some money for an extra pizza :P). I agree, some makeup products are just worth the splurge, but there’s so much that you could afford to scrimp on.
So if you’re smack dab in the middle of a tight budget, here are 15 beauty hacks I bet you wanna try your hand at:
Try a DIY Face Mask at Home
While I won’t suggest you wreak havoc in the kitchen, there are certain hand-me-down beauty recipes that I swear by to achieve naturally glowing skin. My all-time favourite is an age-old natural face mask packed with umpteen benefits. Mix equal parts besan (gram flour) and curd in a bowl and add a pinch of turmeric to the mixture. Apply the paste on your face for gorgeous looking skin just like that.
Coconut Oil as a Makeup Remover
I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a fan of oily formulas on my face. However, I stand corrected. Coconut oil is a miracle worker, and it’s about time you incorporate it in your makeup bag. Not only does it get rid of my makeup completely, but also prevents dry and flaky skin. Massage your face with a few drops of oil and rinse off with water. If your skin is still oily, follow it up with a mild face wash.
Use an Illuminating Moisturiser
Getting a pretty, illuminating glow is the goal, right? You know what, it’s not that complicated! I am not a huge fan of using foundation for my daily makeup. However, this beauty hack tops my list. One of my all-time favourites is mixing the Glow and Behold Jelly Highlighter with a hydrating moisturizer, and voila, I’m all set to steal the show!
Experience the Goodness of Spa at Home
You have not experienced true relaxation if you haven’t ever tried your hand at aromatherapy. While I do enjoy the occasional spa visits, there’s no doubt that I will have to shell out a bomb for it. Enter Epsom salts and essential oils. From a normal foot soak to a long, rejuvenating bath, everything about this duo screams happiness!
A Quick Fix to Lighten a Dark Foundation
I have forgotten the number of times I discarded a foundation because it didn’t match my shade. However, I’m much wiser now! If you’ve accidentally purchased a darker shade of foundation, here’s what you can do – take a little foundation on the back of your hand and add a little moisturiser to it till you achieve your desired shade.
Green Tea Eyebags for Dark Circles
I was just as surprised as you are when I first learnt about this crazy hack. Got a used green tea eye bag at home? I know just the right thing that you could do with it. Store the tea bags in the refrigerator and apply to closed eyes for 15-20 mins. Green tea not only reduces dark circles and puffiness but also helps to treat irritation.
Red Lipstick to Correct Dark Circles
Your red lipstick is no less than a superhero, and I learnt that not so long ago. Sure, it’s gorgeous and makes you look glamorous. But it also has a second use – as a colour corrector. I am sure you didn’t see that coming! Once you’re done with your base makeup, apply the lipstick in the targeted area and cover it with a concealer until it’s completely hidden. Poof, you’re ready to rock the show!
Use a Hair Conditioner To Shave Your Legs
Back me up on this – haven’t you run out of shaving foam before you could get to your second leg? As much as it sucks, you gotta do what you gotta do! And you have no choice but to reach out to another product that you’ll always find in your bathroom – a hair conditioner. Enriched with hydrating agents, conditioners make for excellent replacements for shaving creams. Don’t believe me? I’m sure you’ll get to try this one real soon 😛
Fake Fuller Lips With Easy Contour Hacks
We’ve all been there, envying Priyanka Chopra and Kylie Jenner for their gorgeous pout. Thanks to the internet, achieving plump and defined looks just got easier. Here’s how you can get a luscious pout – use a nude lip liner and start lining your lips a little outside your natural lip line. Use a darker shade to fill in the corners of your lips. Finish the look with a matching lipstick shade.
Setting Powder for Thicker Lashes
Sure, fake lashes look gorgeous. But it also brings along an unnecessary expense of investing in lashes from time to time. Here’s something I do that could come in handy for you as well. Apply a few coats of your favourite mascara after curling your lashes. Up next is the pièce de résistance! Apply some baby powder on your lashes with the help of a Q-tip. Add an additional coat to get rid of the powder.
Curling Your Hair With Socks
You may already know how to curl your hair with a flat iron or curling wand. However, here’s a little fun hack you could try to get bouncy curls without rollers or heating tools. Post your shower, divide your hair into smaller sections. Hold the sock at the end of each section and roll it upwards. Tie it at the roots of your hair till it completely dries out. Use a hair spray to lock in the curls.
Ice Cubes for Depuffed Skin
I’ll tell you a secret – ice cubes are the most effective and inexpensive way to get glowing skin. Trust me, this simple habit will transform the way your skin looks and feels. Cleanse your face thoroughly and gently rub a few ice cubes on it. Pat dry after application. Try this before an extensive makeup application to reduce pores.
Use a Toothbrush on your Lips
Surprised? I get it, lips deserve all the attention and sensitivity in the world. However, it is just as important to get rid of dead and flaky skin to get that perfect pout. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to exfoliate your skin and prevent chapped lips. Additionally, this little hack also helps to stimulate blood flow and give your lips a smoother appearance.
Phew! That’s all folks!
